What is Borderline Personality Disorder?
Borderline personality disorder is a mental health disorder that impacts how a sufferer thinks and feels about themselves and other people. This disorder causes problems functioning day to day and makes managing emotions and behaviors difficult, affects a person's self-image, and is marked by unstable relationships.
According to NAMI, it's estimated that 1.4% of U.S. adults experience borderline personality disorder and 75% of those are women.
While borderline personality disorder can be severe and cause a sufferer to struggle functioning, there is hope with effective treatment from a mental health professional.

- Feelings of boredom or emptiness
- Periods of time with intense depressed mood, feeling irritable, or anxiety lasting several hours to several days
- Behavior marked by self-harm, such as cutting yourself or suicide attempts
- Overly impulsive behaviors that have harmful outcomes
- Low self-esteem that is distorted or unstable in nature, which affects a person's mood, opinions values, goals, and relationships
- Avoidance of being abandoned, whether real or imagined
